The Wicked Hop is a bar and restaurant located on the west side of Broadway St in the historic Third Ward.
The restaurant is located on the first floor of an old warehouse and has a really rustic feel. The bar area is a fun spot that has multiple televisions if people are looking to take in a game. The bar setting is a little constricted so if there are a lot of people, it can feel crowded, but overall it is a great spot to have a drink and relax.
The food menu is not your typical bar offering. The Wicked Hop has exquisite nachos (ranging from $7-$11). We ordered ours with some chicken and this appetizer probably could have been its own meal. We also had some Buffalo wings ($9) and they are definitely a good choice. The Burger ($9) is good as well and a nice chicken sandwich ($9) is also on the menu. For an entree we had the Rue Bourbon Bayou Pasta ($18) and this was simply fantastic. Chicken and sausage, served in a Cajun cream sauce over pasta is really hard to beat.
The Jackalope Lounge is attached to The Wicked Hop. Located immediately to the south, this is an area that is not always open during the day, but is typically open during a weekend night. It offers overflow room for diners, another great bar area, and a really nice stage which has live music throughout the week. It also has a mezzanine type level with really comfortable booths that offer a unique view of the stage and bar.
One of the great and distinguishing elements of this spot is the fact that The Wicked Hop has a huge patio area overlooking an energetic intersection. In the summer the patio can get crowded, so arrive early. The people watching is great.
Finally, the service is great. The staff is friendly and accommodating. It is a great place to have a burger and a beer. It has quickly become a popular spot in town and as a result it is usually crowded. Consequently, if diners are looking for a table without waiting for a short while, arriving early is recommended. However, having a couple drinks at the bar, listening to some great music or watching a game, these are both part of what makes this place fun.
We highly recommend stopping by The Wicked Hop.
