Restaurant Review: Capital Grille

For some reason, the local Milwaukee dining community seems to shun national chain restaurants. Diners are encouraged to support local establishments. I don’t disagree that supporting local businesses in a genuine action, but at the same time, a national chain restaurant such as the Capital Grille has a lot to offer and deserves attention.

We at Brew Town Eats have become big fans of the Capital Grille located on the northeast corner of Wisconsin Avenue and 4th Street.

One of the first thing diners will notice is the level of service and attention to detail. This restaurant prides itself on ensuring that diners have an enjoyable experience. We were not surprised that members of the staff knew our names and even our wine of choice. From the hostess to the bartender, everyone made sure that our experience was top notch. The bar area is a great spot for a cocktail prior to dinner. The bar menu itself is pretty robust and worth trying for a lunch or more casual dinner.

For appetizers we have sampled the Pan Fried Calamari, the Prosciutto Wrapped Mozzarella with Vine Ripe Tomatoes, and the Lobster and Crab Cakes. The Pan Fried Calamari with Hot Cherry Peppers was perfect and the peppers add a great kick to spice up this traditional appetizer. The Prosciutto wrapped mozzarella was tremendous and is probably on the top of our list of best appetizers in the city. It is served with a 12 year balsamic that really compliments the dish.  Finally, the Lobster and Crab Cakes prove that the Capital Grille is more than just a place for steaks.

The entree portion of our meal was more traditional. We sampled the filet of beef and the Delmonico. The Filet was extremely tender and covered with porcine rub. The Delmonico is a 22 oz bone in ryb eye that is incredibly tasty. The fact of the matter is, this place knows its steaks. The sirloin is another solid choice. We highly recommend going with the Chef’s suggestions as they can take an ordinary entree, and make it something really special. The staff is also very helpful and willing to mix some of the rubs with other pieces of meat. The Capital Grille goes above and beyond ensuring that you enjoy not only the meal, but the entire experience.

Finally, the dessert menu is full of good choices. We went with the chocolate cake to share, but the Creme Brulee is also one of the best in town. Again, if you have room, these are the perfect way to end the night.

The Capital Grille is more pricey than most restaurants in town, but if you are looking for a dining experience with unbelievable service and high quality food, this is the place. The entire staff is dedicated to making your night a memorable experience. Quite frankly, it works. That is why these restaurants are open throughout the United States. They have found a recipe that works, and we highly recommend stopping by this place. The Capital Grille will provide a dining experience that will be remembered.
