Restaurant Review: Crazy Water

This might be one of the best restaurants in town that nobody knows. Located in the south side of Milwaukee, Crazy Water is a top notch restaurant with great service and great food. It is truly one of the hidden gems in Milwaukee.

The restaurant is located in a historic building that has a tavern like design, but a bistro type atmosphere. It is truly a restaurant that has a lot of character within its design. The unique and intimate feel of the restaurant only adds to the overall dining experience.

The bar area is nice and cozy. Be aware that on weekends it can get a little crowded, but if the space at the bar is available for a pre dinner cocktail, I recommend that you take advantage. One of the neat things about this place is the wine list. It is not overwhelming like some places in town. The restaurant offers a number of wines by the glass and offers a wide variety of wines.

The menu itself is incredibly dynamic. Diners will be presented with a wide variety of choices on the menu. We visited on two separate occasions. During our first visit we tried the Yuzu marinated pork belly ($10.00) for an appetizer and it was fantastic. The meat was cooked perfectly and the balsamic was a perfect compliment. We also went with crab cakes and the shrimp on other occassions. While the pork belly was my personal favorite, the two seafood appetizers were also hits at the table and again cooked to perfection.

For dinners we tried everything from steak to seafood. The Wagyu Hangar Steak with Corn Risotto ($34.00) was really impressive. We also tried the steer tenderloin ($32.00) and it was also very good. The crazy shrimp ($22.00) and the Tilapia ($21.00) clearly showed the ability of the kitchen. The shrimp was served with chorizo and asian barbeque sauce. This was served with a side of jasmine rice. In my opinion, this was the best plate of the dinner. The potato rosti Tilapia was served with green rice and took a standard filet of fish to another level. From red meat to delicate fish the kitchen nailed every meal served.

A common theme during this review is the fact that the food was all fresh and prepared perfectly. That is the sign of a high quality restaurant and one of the reasons this is probably one of the better dining establishments in town. The service on every visit was really good and the staff is dedicated to ensuring that the dining experience is as perfect as possible. This is a special place and should be on the short list for top dining locations in town.
