Restaurant Review: The Harbor House

For the last year or so, I have heard great things about the Harbor House. However, for some reason I had not had the opportunity to stop in for a meal until just recently. First off, The Harbor House might have the best view in Milwaukee. Located just north of Discovery World, the restaurant sits on a piece of land that stretches into Lake Michigan. The views of the Art Museum and skyline are unmatched. I am sure that during the summer, the scenery is even more dramatic.

We went to dinner on a Friday night and I was somewhat surprised by the fact that the restaurant was not overly crowded. The Harbor House has a great bar area and it is a really nice spot to have a drink before or after your meal. They also offer a raw bar that is unmatched in the city of Milwaukee.

For an appetizer we went with the standard shrimp cocktail (4 for $12.95) . The shrimp were large and fresh. We also tried the clam chowder ($5.95). The clam chowder was loaded with potato and bacon. It was fantastic and I would highly recommend it.

For dinner, we went with the Grilled Hawaiian Swordfish ($27.95) and the Pasta Genovese with Shrimp ($23.95). The swordfish was accompanied by roasted potatoes, spinach and a tomato relish. The portion size was perfect and the fish was perfectly cooked. The Pasta Genovese had a great pesto sauce, tomatoes, vegetables and pearl onions. They gave us plenty of pasta and we were able to take some home.

The service was really good, however we were disappointed to learn that they were out of the specials of the evening prior to our arrival. Given the fact that it was a weekend and our reservation was at 7:30, we were a little surprised.

We took a pass on dessert and finished our wine and had some coffee. The menu looked fantastic and we will have to give it a try during our next visit.

This is a really nice restaurant with great service, great food, and one hell of a view. It is a special place and perfect for a special occasion. We highly recommend the Harbor House for your next night out.
